Some photographic memorabilia

Here are a few photos from long ago (send us more).

First, a photo of Hermosa Beach Girl Scouts, taken in 1955.
Most of them are members of the Mira Costa Class of 1960.

From left:  Nancy Vening, Barbara Rycroft, Janet Farrand, Jan Hendrick, Lynda Schaffer, Mary Alice Holmes, Kathie Kosche', Becky Brock, Kathleen Zemlock, Sue Thompson, Sandra Brennan, Melinda Kutch, JoAnn Haworth, Roberta Lowe, Kathy Taylor, Cherry Kline, Diane Denholm, Ruth Misues and Nancy Mickelson.

Here's another Girl Scout photo, sans uniforms.  This troop consisted of fourth graders at Pacific School in Manhattan Beach in 1952.  Front row (from left):  Georgia Gondira, Judy Burrows, Linda Sanson, Rocki Markert and Gretchen Andersen.  Back row (from left):  Terry Neldon, ?, Linda Atherton, Sharon Albert and Barbara Meyers.  Can anyone fill in the missing name?

Mike Clute came up with this 8th grade photo.  How many members of the MCHS Class of 1960 can you recognize here?

Roger Anderson sent us this 8th grade photo.  How many members of the MCHS Class of 1960 can you recognize in this one?  Do you recognize any Aviation High alums here???  (Hint:  one was later the student body president at AHS.)

The Army, the prom, adolescent irreverence...

 Remember these ribbons?

At the Junior-Senior Prom:  Jim McEntyre and Gretchen Guethlein, May 16, 1959

In the Army:  Jim McCaverty and Dave McElhaney served in the same unit in Germany in 1961.

Lampooning a World War II icon:  Five Mira Costa seniors do a take-off on the famous Iwo Jima flag-raising photograph beside the Music Building in 1959 (from left:  George Fraga, Wayne Overbeck, Frank Peterson, Alan Jimenez and Erik Gerhardt).

Friends and pilots for 40+ years...

Here's Joe Dezso (left) and Bill Glod in the cockpit of a then-new Boeing 707 in a 1959 photograph taken in the American Airlines hangar at LAX.  Both went on to long careers in aviation:  Joe is the primary designer of the Robinson R-22 helicopter, and Bill retired as a 777 captain for American.
