Purpose
The goal of this assignment is for you to
inform the class about a specific nonverbal communication study. You are
teaching a unit on a published article in the field of nonverbal communicat=
ion.
Choosing an Article
Choose one of the scholarly articles about
nonverbal communication from the list provided. The articles will be taken =
on a
first-come basis, so the sooner you make your choice the better. If you cha=
nge
your mind, you may switch to another article that is still available.<=

Understanding the Article
Read the article and prepare a presentati=
on of
no more than 8 minutes that addresses the following questions:
- What
was the purpose of the study? What were the investigators trying to le=
arn?
- How=
was
the study conducted? Was it a controlled laboratory study, a field stu=
dy, self-report,
direct observation, etc.? What stimulus conditions or manipulations, if
any, were performed? What nonverbal behavior was measured and how? Were
there noteworthy flaws in the study? You may need to simplify your
explanation of how the study was conducted. Don’t belabor the
details.
- What
were the results or findings? Were they statistically significant? Were
they counter-intuitive? When you report on the results of the study, d=
on’t
get bogged down in statistical minutiae.
- How=
do
the results apply to nonverbal communication in the real world? Do the
results readily apply to real-life communication? How generalizable are
the findings?
- Boil
down the study to a single “take away” point. In 24 words =
or
less, what should class members remember about the article?=

help. You may use PowerPoint, visual aids, or other media in your presentat=

provided you stay within the time limit. Do not read your presentati=

Evaluation
Your grade will be based on how well you =
explain
the article to the class. You presentation should be well-organized. Your
explanation should be clear, and concise. You should demonstrate that you h=
ave
a clear grasp of the article. Your explanation of the results should be acc=
urate.
Feel free to offer your own insights.
