INTERNS IN ACTION

STEPS TO YOUR INTERNSHIP

PLEASE NOTE:
The COMM 495T and RTVF 495 are a Credit/No Credit class. HCOM 495 is a graded class.

Make sure your internship is approved by the university before you begin. If you put in your hours and the site is not approved, you will receive NO CREDIT or an F (depending on your major). Questions about the approval process of an internship site may be addressed in the Center for Internships, LH-206 and at Step #5 below.

1. Review the Deadlines to complete your required COMM 495 or RTVF 495 or HCOM 495 Internship.

2. Check the Prerequisites to make sure you are eligible. NOTE: Prerequisites may not be taken concurrently. Students must also have a minimum 2.25 G.P.A. to do an internship.

Example: An advertising student will not be able to take COMM 495 and COMM 351 in the same semester.

3. After checking your Prerequisites and if you are eligible to take an internship, download the Information Card pertinent to your major for quick reference.

4. Register for COMM 495T, RTVF 495 or HCOM 495 (depending on your major) for the term you want to intern.

5. Create a cover letter and resume and get it signed off by the Career Center. Keep this signed-off copy as you will scan it, save it as a pdf file, and upload it through TITANIUM as Assignment #1 when your term of enrollment begins.

6. Find an ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP on the Career Center website (open the Student link on left side; then open Jobs and Internships).

OR

6. Find an internship on your own and have the company get approved through the Center for Internships website.

PLEASE NOTE: Each internship opportunity must be approved by the university. Companies should post their academic internship opportunities on the CICE registration website. This is a 4-6 week process; so if you are finding an internship on your own, please make sure the company representative gets registered as outlined on the CICE page. The company must do this as it requires legal documents. DO NOT BEGIN your internship until the company is approved. A non-approved internship will result in a NO CREDIT or an F depending on your major.

7. Once you have secured your internship and the company has University Approval, register on the Center for Internship website (left column "CICE Registration"). You do not need a signature on the first page of the form --- click "continue."

8. Fill out the Consent /Placement Form on the Center for Internships website. When you get to the question "Where are you doing your internship," your company's name must be on the drop-down menu.  If it's not, contact the Center for Internships at 657-278-3154.

9. SAVE the COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORM to upload through TITANIUM as ASSIGNMENT #2. This is labeled as Registration Complete.

10. Complete all the CURRICULUM on Titanium by the "last day of classes" for the term that you are enrolled.
