                                                     Speech #2, INSIGHT SPEECH

 

(6-8 Minutes)  The purpose of this speech is to clearly inform your audience of a worthwhile insight (i.e., an idea, a concept, a process, etc).  Your insight should be one you suppose your audience does not already possess nor could easily obtain. Your insight speech should be characterized by the following:

 Your topic, specific purpose, central idea (i.e., insight), a description of your visual aids (size and content) and nature of your audience must be submitted in writing one class meeting before your are scheduled to speak.  See "Assignment 2, Written Portion" on course website.

 

Although not required, I highly recommend that you develop an outline to guide your preparation, and a "speaking outline" (see your text, pp. 19,20 and Chapter 10) to guide your preparation. 

 

Some sample purposes:

            Explain how solar energy is generated

            Explain Montessori education

            Explain hydroponics

            Explain the escrow process

            Explain how a computer works

            Explain how a sailboat can sail into the wind

            Explain why Placentia is an All-America City

            Explain how a hybrid car works
