Assignment 3: Homepages on the Web
For this assignment you will find one good and one bad example of personal homepages and write a two-page, double-spaced paper of an analysis of each site.
In my book, Visual Communication Images with Messages, I detail six perspectives you might want to use in your analysis. On pages 93-97 I use the perspectives of personal (what is your initial gut reaction?), historical (are there links with the past?) technical (what technical features can you discuss?), ethical (are there moral questions involved?), cultural (what is the overall message of the image?), and critical (how does the content work or not work with the design of the image?).
Obviously, with only two pages to discuss the homepage you will have to choose one of the perspectives to concentrate your critique. You will find it exceedingly easy to discover homepages that arenšt that good. The trick will be to find good quality homepages that deserve your praise and can be emulated in your own work.
