Assignment 12: QuarkXPress 1
In this assignment you will learn how to import pictures and text to make a simple QuarkXPress layout. This skill will come in handy when you make more complicated newspaper page layouts in a subsequent assignment.
This step-by-guide pertains to the version in the Mac lab.
Press the Command + F keys to get the Find File application. Type in "Lorem Ipsum" to see if your computer has the file. If not, you need to move to another computer. If so, remember where it is located

Open QuarkXPress
In File, create a New file with a Document Setup of 8" x 11" with .5" margins all around. Your work area will then be 7" x 10"
In View, show Tools, Rules and Measurements
Use the Type tool. Make a text box about 3" x 3" in the top-left corner by clicking and dragging the mouse
Select the Item tool. Write your name, assignment, and date with any typeface and size you want
Select the Picture tool. Make a box of any size. In File, select Get Picture. Use the image "rocks.pct" in the folder Troubles within the folders Belfast, Pictures, Pictures&Text, Lester, and Instructor Folders
Move the picture handles until they hug the edges of the image
Use the Move tool and place the picture so its top-left corner is at 2" x 1.5" on the rulers
In Item, select Frame. Make a 1pt black border around the picture
Select the Type tool. Make a text box exactly 2.4" x 1" (In Item, select modify and type in those values)
Move the text box under the picture
Select the Item tool. In File, select Get Text. Find the dummy text file "Lorem Ipsum" usually in the folder named "Crow"
Use Select All (Command + A) to highlight all of the text. Make the text Helvetica, 10pt, justified, and italic
Print your work on the black and white printer. It should look similar to the example below:
